RomaniPhen e.V.

As a self-organization, we work primarily in the fields of education, knowledge production, and cultural production. Our activities include extracurricular historical and political education, anti-racist training for professionals and multipliers, as well as the development and dissemination of educational materials.

We place feminist girls’ work, Romani-related events, networking among activists, and the appreciation and promotion of Romani knowledge at the center of our work. RomaniPhen e.V. emerged at the end of 2018 from the women’s group IniRromnja, which has existed since 2009. The Initiative Rromnja is a collective of Romnja* and Sintizze* who no longer accept that rejection, hostility, and violence against Romnja and Sintizze are ignored, downplayed, or even justified. Racism in all its forms must be named and confronted — this is what we stand for. The name “RomaniPhen” is derived from two meanings: “Romani sister” and the “culture/language/history” of Rom*nja.

The concept of culture contained in the title does not refer to preserving or transmitting any kind of folklore. Rather, it refers to the diverse cultures of resistance, survival, social analysis, historical testimony, and civic participation of Rom*nja. Our work is feminist, anti-racist, and empowering!
