The Bundes Roma Verband (BRV) was founded in 2012 as the umbrella organization of (post-)migrant Roma in Germany, with the aim of bringing the shared concerns of Roma self-organizations into the public sphere. Its common foundation is the fight against discrimination and racism, and the pursuit of equal opportunities and an equal life for Roma in Germany.
The association provides recommendations to policymakers and public institutions and contributes its expertise to national and European strategies, including the National Action Plan on Integration, the National Action Plan Against Racism, the EU Roma Strategy, and the Permanent Federal–State Commission Against Antigypsyism.
BRV supports Roma communities and emerging organizations in building their structures, organizes workshops, conducts campaigning and press work, and cooperates broadly with actors engaged in anti-discrimination efforts. For international remembrance and action days — such as World Roma Day on 8 April — it develops joint activities.
The association advocates for displaced and refugee Roma, publishes statements, and holds political consultations — for example, to improve the situation of Ukrainian Roma — and informs the community about relevant activities and measures taken by federal and state authorities. BRV also participates in national and international congresses.
