26. & 27. Januar 2025: Child Survivors. 2 Aufführungen und eine Podiumsdiskussion zur Gegenwart und Zukunft des Gedenkens Zu Standard-Verknüpfungen hinzufügen

On January 26, 2025, the Roma Center is organizing a performance of the documentary play Child Survivors. The play is about ten children who survived the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Using biographical information, original quotes and video installations, their perspective is taken on “islands of memory”: on the immediate experience of moments of everyday life in the camp as a child and on the adults’ memories of the traumatic imprisonment in their childhood. Information scenes on the history and conditions of detention in this Nazi concentration camp show the destructive structure of persecution and internment by the Nazi regime.

After the performance of Child Survivors on January 26, we will delve deeper into the themes of the play with guests from the Roma and Sinti communities, the Jewish university group and the Bergen-Belsen Memorial and critically examine the processing of the Shoah and the Samudaripen. In doing so, we will explore the following questions, among others: How far have we come in remembering? What continuities are there in social reality and what gaps are there in the culture of remembrance? And what significance does remembrance have in times of the renormalization of right-wing extremist ideas in society?

Ricardo Tietz, Lower Saxony Association of German Sinti e.V.
