Roma Center e.V. is a nationwide migrant self-organization founded in 2006 by Roma from former Yugoslavia. With locations in Göttingen and Dortmund, the association is committed to political and historical education, anti-discrimination work, and empowerment. It provides counseling for migrant Roma facing discrimination, violence, displacement, and residence-related issues, including dedicated counseling centers for Roma from Ukraine in Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Hamburg.
One of its key focuses is European-wide networking: Roma Center organizes international events, including the World Roma Congress 2023 in Berlin and several conferences in Brussels and Belgrade, as well as the Federal Roma Congress since 2023. Through the Roma Antidiscrimination Network (RAN), the association operates a nationwide network against racism.
Roma Center conducts research trips, publishes reports, and — through training programs and public outreach — strengthens awareness of the lived realities of Roma. Its work of remembrance includes the Nazi genocide of the Roma of Europe, the displacement of the Roma community from Kosovo in 1999, and the pogrom of Rostock-Lichtenhagen.
